Suite/Unit Number

The specific identifier for the tenant's space within a multi-tenant building.

By Angel Campa, Founder · Updated March 2026

Why This Field Matters

In multi-tenant buildings, the suite number is the only way to pinpoint which physical space is subject to the lease. Errors here can lead to disputes about which unit the tenant actually controls, particularly when floor plans change or suites are renumbered during a building renovation.

Where to Find It in Your Lease

Found alongside the premises address in the preamble or "Demised Premises" section. Also referenced on the floor plan exhibit and in the rent schedule.

How Lextract Extracts This Field

Lextract uses a combination of AWS Textract OCR and Claude AI to identify and extract the suite/unit number from your lease PDF. The AI searches for all pages of the document, then assigns a confidence score based on OCR quality and extraction certainty. Fields with lower confidence are flagged for human review.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the suite number changes during the lease?

Building owners sometimes renumber suites during renovations. The lease should include language allowing administrative updates to the suite number without requiring a formal amendment, though best practice is to confirm the change in a letter agreement.

Is a suite number required for all commercial leases?

Single-tenant buildings or freestanding retail properties may not have a suite number. In multi-tenant properties, however, the suite number is essential for distinguishing the demised premises from other occupied spaces.
