Lease Abstraction for DocuSign

By Angel Campa, Founder · Updated March 2026

About DocuSign

DocuSign is the leading e-signature platform used to execute commercial leases digitally. After a lease is signed in DocuSign, it is available as a completed PDF in the DocuSign envelope — but the execution is where the data extraction challenge begins. The signed document contains all the agreed terms, but they exist only as text in a PDF, not as structured data that can flow into property management systems, lease accounting platforms, or rent roll spreadsheets.

How Lextract Helps

Lextract closes the gap between DocuSign execution and lease administration by extracting structured data from the completed PDF. After downloading the executed lease from DocuSign, uploading it to Lextract returns 125+ structured fields in under 3 minutes. This eliminates the manual abstraction step that typically follows e-signature execution — the signed document goes directly into Lextract and comes out as clean, structured data ready for Yardi, MRI, QuickBooks, or Excel.

Workflow: Extract to Import

  1. 1Once the lease is fully executed in DocuSign, download the completed PDF from the DocuSign envelope
  2. 2Upload the executed PDF to Lextract — it handles the same PDF DocuSign produces (no reformatting needed)
  3. 3Receive 126 extracted fields with confidence scores in under 3 minutes
  4. 4Review any medium or low-confidence extractions, particularly on handwritten or redlined sections
  5. 5Download the structured export in your preferred format (CSV for PMS import, JSON for database, Excel for spreadsheets)
  6. 6Import the data into your property management system, lease accounting software, or master lease tracker

Supported Export Formats

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Lextract work directly with DocuSign via API?

Lextract currently uses a manual upload workflow — you download the executed PDF from DocuSign and upload it to Lextract. A direct API integration between Lextract and DocuSign that triggers extraction automatically upon execution is on the product roadmap. The current workflow adds approximately 5 minutes to the post-execution process and can be batch-processed for multiple closings.

How does Lextract handle counter-signatures and rider attachments in DocuSign?

DocuSign delivers all signed documents and attachments as a single PDF package or separate files depending on the envelope configuration. Lextract processes the full PDF — if the lease and all riders are combined into one document (as DocuSign typically does), all pages are included in the extraction. For multi-document envelopes, extract the main lease document and any material rider attachments separately.
